Boalsburg’s Hometown Christmas

Nov 30-Dec 2, 2007

Boalsburg’s Hometown Christmas Celebration will once again mark the beginning of the holiday season. A dedicated committee has been meeting monthly since January to plan a weekend of holiday cheer and festivity – and they’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Friday evening, November 30, at 6:00 pm will mark the beginning of the event with the lighting of the community tree on the Diamond and caroling.

The feature event of Saturday, December 1 will be Breakfast with Santa at the Boalsburg Fire Hall from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. For $5.00 per person, old and young alike can enjoy a breakfast buffet, holiday music, and a personal chat with Santa. No advance reservations are necessary. The remainder of the day can be enjoyed by doing your holiday shopping in the quaint and delightful shops in town, or by enjoying Margaret Tennis’s Lamp Exhibit and Christmas decorations at the Boalsburg Heritage Museum. Decoration of the museum will be done by the Boalsburg and Linden Hall Garden Club and will be open daily from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm starting November 24 through December 15.

Sunday, December 2, will find Historic Boalsburg bustling with a Christmas parade at 1:00 pm.  Following the parade there will be horse-drawn wagon rides, along with food and entertainment at the Boalsburg Fire Hall. Holiday music, Cookie Contest judging, and Cookie Sale will be found at the Heritage Museum, and holiday shopping throughout town. Santa and Father Christmas will also be on hand to hear those Christmas wish lists.

December 2 will conclude with the annual meeting of the Boalsburg Village Conservancy at 5 PM upstairs at Duffy's Tavern. The meeting is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served. The program will be a slide lecture by Philip Sauerlender on "Boalsburg's Rough Riders: Terry Boal and the Boal Troop."

Two contests which have become a traditional part of this event are the Holiday Coloring Contest for elementary age children and the Cookie Contest for both youth and adults. Information regarding the Coloring Contest will be distributed to children by our elementary school Art teachers. Information regarding the Cookie Contest can be obtained by calling the Heritage Museum at 466-3035.

Whether you join us for one or all three days of the event we hope your experience leaves you with that Hometown Christmas glow! Questions regarding the event can be directed to Clay and Melanie Phillips, co-chairs, at 349-8686.
