Boalsburg Bicentenary Celebration: Schedule of Events

The last event for the Boalsburg 200th will be couple of sessions on planning organized by the Harris Township Planning Commission. There will be a session in September 2009 on transportation planning and the final session after that on future growth and the changing face of the Township. Celebrating Two Hundred Years of Community

Boalsburg commemorates its founding 200 years ago by pulling together as a community for a fine celebration of our community -- past, present and future -- with many sub-themes:

·         Saturday, October 11, 2008: Two events kicked off the celebration, an afternoon Boalsburg 200th Birthday Street Party and an evening Boalsburg 200th Birthday Ball, “200 Years of Family, Friends and Neighbors Shaping the Future” at the Boal Mansion.

·         December 2008. Boalsburg Hometown Christmas

·         January 28, 2009: Slide lecture: “The Boal Troop Post WWI and the Founding of the 28th Division Shrine.” Philip Sauerlender, at the Pennsylvania Military Museum.

·         April 7 through August 29, 2009, Tuesdays and Saturday, 2 to 4 pm: Exhibit: “Boalsburg: Celebrating 200 Years of Community.” Boalsburg Heritage Museum, E. Main Street. Details at www.boalsburgheritagemuseum.com or 814-466-6883.

·         April 18, 2009, 10 am: For kids! Boalsburg Bicentenary Regatta and Hot Wheel Race: Contact Admiral Gert Aron at gertaron@aol.com or 466-6067.

·         May 2, 2009, 8 pm: “Music at the Boal Mansion” celebrating 200 years of American music. Performers from the Penn State School of Music. Champagne, fine hors d’oeuvres.

·         May 14-16, May 21-23, 2009: “The Columbus Caper,” a comedy/drama for the Boalsburg 200th by Jerry Sawyer. At the Boal Barn Playhouse. Curtain is 7 pm (NOT 8 pm). For tickets contact the SCCT at 814-234-7228 or go to www.scctonline.org

·         Memorial Day Weekend: May 23-25, 2009.

o       Saturday, May 23, 5 pm: Boalsburg Fire Co. Parade. Harris Township neighborhoods may enter floats on the theme of “200 Years of Neighborhoods.”

o       Sunday, May 24: Boalsburg brings history to life:

§         1–4 pm:  Boalsburg Historic Houses Tour: “200 Years of Family Home Life”. Contact Katie Ellis at Katie@uoc.com or (814) 466-1110.

§         4-6 pm: street party in the village square with music by JR Mangan.

§         7 pm: Pastor Brent Book at Zion Lutheran church re-enacts a 200 year old service and sermon with patriotic music to reflect America’s rich religious history.

o       Monday, May 25: “200 Years of History”. Historic Structures Walking Tour brochure and web site (Bob Cameron, rdc170@psu.edu, 876-0129).
